Frequently Asked Questions
unistart started at the University of Southern California, our alma mater. Despite the numerous entrepreneurship-focused clubs at USC, it was challenging to connect with fellow founders after graduation. There isn't a centralized directory of all the startups founded by USC founders, so we wanted to fill this gap and show people that career paths in entrepreneurship are possible. We made a public database of a hundred startups launched by USC founders. From there, we embarked on a journey to solve various other problems in university entrepreneurship communities, such as recruiting and getting early users.
We crowdsource a lot of our data. People can add their startup to the database by filling out a quick 2 minute form. We then manually verify each entry to ensure that we display the most accurate information.
100%! We welcome all kinds of help to make unistart the go-to entrepreneurship platform for communities at schools. You can support the site by helping us crowdsource more info, spread awareness, or build company partnerships. Feel free to email us at email@example.com with any inquiries.

Every year, dental offices spend over $7 billion on extra inventory because they lack an efficient procurement process and inventory control. Gross inefficiencies in the marketplace, coupled with the fact that dentists spend 5-10% of their annual revenue on supplies, leads to most practices missing out on up to $50K+ per year on supplies, depending on the size and specialty of the practice. This is a huge burden that can be optimized with advanced digital tools, saving time and money on the supplies that keep offices operating efficiently. To solve this problem, base86 is building out a data-centric ecosystem of tools serving independent healthcare professionals and suppliers. This enables frictionless connections within the supply chain, which saves time and money for all member organizations, reduces excessive allocation of staff resources, de-risks the supply chain for practitioners, and increases revenue and margin for suppliers. The long term vision of base86 is not just to provide actionable insights, but ultimately to optimize and even entirely automate the supply chain. Taking humans out of the procurement loop is entirely possible with proper integrations, data, and ML-driven inventory management, and is extremely desirable by practitioners that want to focus all of their resources on improving patient outcomes. The Supplies procurement platform is currently in beta and with such prominent suppliers as Noble, Dental City, DC Dental, and DHP already signing on. GA release of Supplies product is planned for later this year. Storefronts is a turnkey ecommerce product powered by Shopify that provides seamless capabilities and workflows for the smallest of suppliers. Rounding out the ecosystem, Supplies Concierge is a tech-enabled service offering a white glove supplies procurement solution for practices unable or unwilling to use the procurement platform themselves. Recently, the GTM strategy and business models incidentally converged when the base86 team discovered it already solves pain points for potential distribution partners, such as Group Purchasing Organizations and consultancies around spend and procurement analysis of their practice clients. This provides a clearer path to distribution and an immediate revenue stream, as evidenced by the contract currently executed with the first GPO client with 350 member practices. With its offerings, base86 is targeting 100K+ independent dental offices and 400 independent suppliers for a $600MM+ opportunity. The path to reasonably apply the model and expand to other healthcare providers leads to another $1B+ in potential SAM. Finally, we have a seasoned management team with multiple venture and startup experience, uniquely positioned to succeed. Our CEO has 10+ years of Product and UX experience, and our CTO is a highly sought after expert and technology conference speaker with 10+ years building out complex products, including in supply chain and procurement. In addition, we are augmented by a tremendous Board of Advisors with many decades of experience in dentistry and healthcare, and a wealth of contacts, such as Dr. Lorne Lavine, and Ron Joyal, formerly the COO of 1-800-DENTIST.
